Topologically induced vortex magnetance of a quantum device
نویسنده
چکیده
We consider resonant vortices around nodal points of the wavefunction in electron transport through a mesoscopic device. With a suitable choice of the device geometry, the dominating role is played by single vortices of a preferred orientation. To characterize strength of the resulting magnetic moment we have introduced a magnetance, the quantity defined in analogy with the device conductance. Its basic properties and possible experimental detection are discussed. PACS: 73.20.Dx, 73.50.Yg, 47.32.-y Typeset using REVTEX

Topological Order in the Phase Diagram for High-Temperature Superconductors with Point Defects
Applying a Lindemann-like criterion obtained previously by Kierfeld, Nattermann and Hwa [Phys. Rev. B 55, 626 (1997)], we estimate the magnetic field and temperature for a high-Tc superconductor, at which a topologically ordered vortex glass phase becomes unstable with respect to a disorder-induced formation of dislocations. The employed criterion is shown to be equivalent to a conventional phe...
متن کاملTopologically Massive Gauge Theory with O ( 2 ) Symmetry
We discuss the structure of the vacua in O(2) topologically massive gauge theory on a torus. Since O(2) has two connected components, there are four classical vacua. The different vacua impose different boundary conditions on the gauge potentials. We also discuss the non-perturbative transitions between the vacua induced by vortices of the theory. 11.15.Ex, 11.15.Kc. ∗On leave of absence from I...
متن کامل“Soft” Anharmonic Vortex Glass in Ferromagnetic Superconductors
Ferromagnetic order in superconductors can induce a spontaneous vortex (SV) state. For external field H 0, rotational symmetry guarantees a vanishing tilt modulus of the SV solid, leading to drastically different behavior than that of a conventional, external-field-induced vortex solid. We show that quenched disorder and anharmoinc effects lead to elastic moduli that are wave-vector dependent...
متن کاملSelf-trapping of light in a two-dimensional photonic lattice
We study wave propagation in a two-dimensional photonic lattice with focusing Kerr nonlinearity, and report on the existence of various nonlinear localized structures in the form of fundamental, dipole, and vortex solitons. First, the linear bandgap structure induced by the two-dimensional photonic crystal is determined, and solitons are found to exist in the photonic bandgap. Next, structures ...
متن کاملTopologically trapped vortex molecules in Bose-Einstein condensates
In a numerical experiment based on Gross-Pitaevskii formalism, we demonstrate unique topological quantum coherence in optically trapped Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs). Exploring the fact that vortices in rotating BEC can be pinned by a geometric arrangement of laser beams, we show the parameter range in which vortex-antivortex molecules or multiquantum vortices are formed as a consequence of ...
